ESG
MuCA’s presence in the Amazon also represents the beginning of a practical approach to ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) in the world’s most biodiverse territory. The Museum seeks to implement sustainable forest management based on actions focused on valuing its natural attributes and preserving existing resources. The plan is to place education and scientific knowledge as strategies for nature conservation and a more prosperous, equal and sustainable future.
Thus, MuCA intends to generate value and benefits beyond economic results, prioritizing sustainability linked to human, natural, social and financial capital. We believe that only an integrated and balanced initiative between different spheres can amplify the positive impacts and thus ensure that sustainable development reaches its full potential.
Education and social development
In partnership with the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA), a community will be formed to work in an Conservation Unit (Flona Tapajós) with 3,600 hectares for production chains of raw materials with high added value for the industry. UFOPA technicians and researchers will work to standardize these assets in accordance with regulatory and industrial standards. In addition to forest production,
MuCA and the Ministry of the Environment will coordinate payments for environmental services provided by carbon sequestration, as a result of the preservation of this territory, which will be occupied by the production of forest products.
The project aims to train 635 young people in the region to work in the development of forest services and products, strengthening bioeconomy in the Amazon, promoting local scientific research and reinforcing, through science, the importance of the forest for the survival of humanity and the planet. Among the group, 21 of them will make up the body of young technicians at MuCA – the team has been preparing for months to conduct guided tours, set up exhibitions and receive Brazilian and foreign visitors.
As a viability strategy for this project, MuCA will provide the best equipment for training, research and bioprospecting of ingredients for the food, cosmetic and phytopharmaceutical industries. This consolidates a promising horizon for these young people, who can transform the forest into Brazil’s main asset and competitive advantage, and for the new generations, who will have a broader horizon of opportunities for income generation.
